Jesko production is back underway!

After the unfortunate incident that destroyed Jesko chassis 7358 in Greece in June, Koenigsegg, as we previously reported, issued a Do-Not-Drive Order for the Jesko. The company quickly identified that a faulty pressurized hydraulic hose was to blame for the fire and began to work on a fix. As part of this process and out of an abundance of safety, Jesko production was paused until a solution could be found. Every single customer Jesko was recalled, either to the factory or to a service centre, to be updated. For more than 50 days from mid June to early August, not a single new customer Jesko underwent testing outside of the factory, a stark contrast to what was seen in the first five months of the year with customer Jeskos testing nearly every day. Though some of this is due to the factory’s summer break, it is also likely that the need to respond to the incident in Greece further delayed the return to scheduled production.

However, as of early August, customer Jeskos have been seen testing once again. In the weeks since, we have yet to see the delivery of a car after being spotted testing, but have confirmation from a few Jesko customers that their cars are due imminently. As for existing cars, the fixes to prevent the issue that caused the fire of #7358 are underway and we hope those cars can return to the roads in due time.

To date, 30 Jeskos have been delivered.

What about the CC850?

Koenigsegg unveiled a second CC850 at Monterey Car Week. The latest CC850 (#7519) is painted in white with a white and brown leather interior and is fitted with white wheels. The groundbreaking megacar was unveiled in August 2022 to celebrate Christian von Koenigsegg’s latest birthday. In the two years since, enthusiasts have been eager to see more of the car, and whilst the unveiling of a second example at The Quail was exciting, the question about when the car will enter production still looms.

The latest information indicates Koenigsegg will begin customer CC850 production this fall. They are now requiring early CC850 customers (about the first third of the production run) to lock in their specs in anticipation of production. We expect to see the first customer CC850 delivery in Q1 2025, and hope to see a handful of examples out on the roads before next summer. Koenigsegg is streamlining the production process for the CC850 by heavily restricting customization, something which customers have been aware of since the start. There is just one for-purchase option offered for the vehicle, which is the choice to add paddle shifters. Other than that, there is a heavily limited palette of cosmetic choices (exterior paint, interior, wheels). This simplification should result in faster production for the CC850, meaning customers will get their cars sooner.

What about the US market? Where are the Jeskos?

As of September 2024, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a part of the Department of Transportation (DOT), has yet to grant homologation for the Koenigsegg Jesko for the United States market. Though Koenigsegg has built Jeskos in US-specification to satisfy the requirements for homologation, the bureaucratic process is slow and regulatory approval has yet to be granted. This means that, right now, the Jesko is not US-legal. This will change when homologation is granted, which is estimated to be complete by late 2024.

Despite this hurdle, Koenigsegg delivered the first US customer Jesko at Monterey Car Week in August. Chassis 7266, a Jesko Attack, was built for a client in Sacramento, California and the official delivery handover took place at The Quail on Friday, August 16th. The car is painted in Crystal White and has Draco Red striping. For more, visit the registry entry here.

This Jesko was brought into the United States on a temporary import permit and delivered only in ceremonial fashion. When driven during Car Week, the car used dealer plates. Given that the spotters in Ängelholm have yet to spot this car, we suspect it has not yet undergone proper pre-delivery testing. Thus, we expect it to return to Sweden to complete a comprehensive pre-delivery testing regiment and, once homologation is granted, it can be imported into the United States properly. Following this, we expect a wave of customer deliveries in the United States.

What’s new in the Koenigsegg market? Which cars have sold recently?

The Koenigsegg market has been active this summer, with a number of sales including three Agera RS’, a model that transacts exceedingly rarely.

First, Agera RS #7116 was sold after about five years of ownership in Vienna, Austria and has found a new home in the United Kingdom.

Second, Agera RS ‘Valhall’ #7135 was sold by its second owner in Southern California, finding a new home in another state. The new owner has asked us to keep the whereabouts of Valhall a secret until he chooses to unveil it at a later date. We are excited that Valhall has a new home and it is in great hands!

Third, Agera RS #7181 owned in Vancouver, Canada by SR Auto Group sold, the transaction happening within days of the sale of Valhall. This Agera RS, which was delivered new to Canada and has spent its entire life in the province of British Columbia, was exported from the country. It is now in the United States with its new owner, who has grand ambitions for the car. Though we cannot reveal more yet, stay tuned!

Another Canadian Koenigsegg sold, specifically the Regera (#7172) based in Toronto. The car had been for sale at Grand Touring Automobiles and, despite price reductions, was showing no signs of selling. Then, with the car approaching an entire year on market, it sold. The car made its way to Charlotte, North Carolina, where it was promptly listed for sale by Koenigsegg Charlotte for US$800k higher than Grand Touring Automobiles had it listed for. Though we are glad to see the car sell, it is unfortunate that it has been re-listed immediately. We hope it finds a proper home.

After the sales of the Agera RS (#7181) and Regera (#7172), Canada is left with just one Koenigsegg, specifically CCR #7020 in Calgary, Alberta.

Moving across the Atlantic, Agera S #7095 has sold to a new owner. The car has been in the United Kingdom for the last two years, and post-sale the car is not going anywhere because the new owner is based in London. Another British collector also joined the Ghost Squadron recently with the purchase of CCXR #7064, which had been briefly owned by retired Formula 1 driver Adrian Sutil before which it had been in Germany and Denmark over the past decade.

Elsewhere, other Koenigseggs have appeared for sale, including Regera #7165 in Dubai and Regera #7166 in Hong Kong.

Also notable was the auction of Koenigsegg Regera #7186 by RM Sotheby’s at Monterey Car Week. This example, being sold by its owner in Nevada, had just 1,512 miles on the odometer and an estimated sale price of between $2,750,000 and $3,250,000. This highly-customized Regera has gold leaf striping as well as gold flake in the clear coat, as well as a full exposed carbon body. Despite a lot of anticipation for the auction, the car failed to sell. It attained a high bid of $2,550,000. Of the five Koenigsegg Regeras that have gone up for auction to-date, still just one has sold (RM Sotheby’s Paris 2024).

Koenigsegg in the Media

Koenigsegg has been on top of the media game this summer, with multiple high-quality and well-received video pieces being published by both the company themselves and third parties. First, Koenigsegg set the 0-400-0 world record with the Jesko Absolut, releasing a fantastic video to accompany the achievement. Just days later, Top Gear published their special on the one-off Koenigsegg Chimera, a rebuilt Agera RS featuring a manual transmission from the CC850 and the powerful Jesko engine.

More recently, Top Gear has released a video featuring the Jesko Attack and Jesko Absolut from Carage in Switzerland, both finished in Koenigsegg Naked Carbon. Host Ollie Marriage took the Jesko Attack for a drive around the test track, expressing his astonishment at its capabilities.

Finally, Top Gear brought in Christian von Koenigsegg to explore the Koenigsegg CCGT, a GT1 racecar from nearly two decades ago that, due to a regulation change, never got to race. The video is a fantastic look at this incredible racecar.

What’s Next for Koenigsegg?

Though 2024 has marked Koenigsegg’s 30th anniversary, the company has exciting plans stretching into 2025 and beyond. Some Koenigsegg enthusiasts may have been disappointed that the company did not reveal a new model at Monterey Car Week this year.

Though we knew no new model was coming, we are excited for the next unveiling, which is coming next year. In fact, the Egg Registry team has already completed fifty percent of our preliminary registry for the next model, well in advance of its unveiling.

Koenigsegg has recently expressed a desire for the CCGT to go racing, something which is a possibility thanks to an enthusiastic and passionate owner of the car since its sale in 2023. Motorsports enthusiasts around the world have plenty to look forward to should Christian’s dream to race be realized.

We remain steadfast in our passion for the Koenigsegg brand and are thrilled to see what the future has in store, from more Jesko deliveries to upcoming models, special projects, media features, and more!
