It is exceedingly uncommon that the opportunity arises to acquire an extremely rare car in brand new condition years after its production finishes. At best, collectors usually settle for a lightly-used example, making this offering that much more special: RM Sotheby’s Private Sales is selling a 2022 Koenigsegg Regera with less than 20 miles on the odometer (delivery mileage) for $2,500,000 (EDIT: Price dropped to $2,395,000 as of 16/01/2025)— a rare opportunity to acquire a new example of the beloved megacar.
When the Koenigsegg Regera was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2015, it made waves around the automotive community. In developing the Regera, Koenigsegg sought to create a luxurious grand tourer with the same incredible performance as their other megacars. Impressed by the instantaneous acceleration of electric vehicles, visionary CEO Christian von Koenigsegg and his team sought to reinvent the powertrain of their existing twin turbo V8-platform.
In this pursuit, Koenigsegg Direct Drive was invented. It eliminates the seven speed dual-clutch transmission, replacing it with a single-gear system offering instantaneous throttle response, rapid acceleration, and a smooth driving experience. Where a typical car would shift gears as it accelerates, the Koenigsegg Regera can surpass 250 mph (402 km/h) with its single gear. The Regera benefits from electric motors (powered by a 4.5 kWh lithium-ion battery), which combine with its 5.0L twin-turbocharged V8 engine to produce 1,500 horsepower.
Koenigsegg built 85 units of the Regera which reside across four continents. Owners praise the car for its comfortable ride, conducive to an enjoyable driving experience, especially for long road trips. The Regera offers the best of both worlds: megacar performance combined with luxury and comfort. Few competitors can offer such a combination, making the Regera a true gem for a discerning enthusiast or collector, especially one who wants to spend many miles on the road.
Chassis #7218 was delivered new to its first and only owner in 2022 by SuperVettura, the longtime authorized Koenigsegg dealer in the United Kingdom. It was, notably, part of a five-car delivery alongside Regera chassis’ #7199, #7207, #7210, and #7211. The car remained in the United Kingdom for 2022 and 2023, under the care of SuperVettura, and was displayed at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed. In late 2023, the owner, a Hong Kong-based collector, had the Regera transported to Hong Kong, where it has been ever since. In early 2024, the vehicle was offered for sale by a dealer in Hong Kong for approximately US$3.8 million, making the current offering at $2.5 million a truly fantastic deal.
This example is painted in Arctic White, which really allows the carbon fibre used on the rest of the car to stand out. First, the car wears Tresex AirCore Carbon wheels, ultra-light high-performance wheels with incredible strength and fantastic heat dissipation (thanks to gold lining on the inside). Next, the car has multiple thin tapered carbon stripes, including two running from the front bonnet and across the roof to the rear of the vehicle. There is also a stripe down each side.
The interior of the car beautifully complements the exterior. There is two-tone leather: Desiato (Black) and Snow (White). The Desiato Leather adorns the outer portion of the seats, as well as the steering wheel grip and the door handles. The Snow Leather, which is accented by Drift Pattern Desiato Stitching, is found on the inner portion of the seats, the back wall, and on the roof, which is removable and can be stowed under the front bonnet of the Regera, converting the car into a roadster.
Looking at recent Regera market trends, the value proposition of chassis #7218 is undeniable. It is priced aggressively to sell, well below many other Regeras, and has extremely low mileage. This opportunity to acquire a like-new Regera is not soon to be repeated, especially not in a specification as classy as this.
