The Koenigsegg Regera is a very rare hypercar: only 85 units exist worldwide. Even rarer is a Regera with $1 million USD in options. Meet chassis #7226, one of the highest-spec Regeras in the entire world. This Regera has a sticker price of $3,241,175, which is more than a million dollars above the base price of $2,213,000 for US-market examples. It is currently up for auction on Sotheby’s Motorsport, an online auction platform specializing in rare collector cars. The auction runs until February 19, 2025, and presents enthusiasts the rare opportunity to acquire one of the finest Regera examples in the world.

When the Koenigsegg Regera was unveiled in 2015, it was hailed as a technological marvel. The engineers at Koenigsegg had devised a way to accelerate all the way to 400km/h without changing gears. They called it the Koenigsegg Direct Drive system, or KDD. This KDD system was combined with three electric motors producing 697 hp and 664 lb⋅ft of torque, offering a fluid and powerful driving experience from a standstill to very-very-fast. In most Regeras, these electric motors combine with a 5.0L twin-turbocharged V8 engine to produce a combined 1,500hp. However, this example available at Sotheby’s Motorsport is special. It has been optioned with the $250,000 Environmental Power Upgrade, allowing the car to produce a staggering 1,757hp (1.31MW) on E85 biofuel. With this kind of power, the Regera can surpass speeds of 400km/h (about 250mph), all without breaking a sweat!

From 2018 to 2022, Regeras were delivered to customers worldwide in seventeen different countries, to much acclaim. The car was marketed as Koenigsegg’s first ‘grand touring’ hypercar, combining luxury with incredible performance. The Regera is more comfortable than its predecessors and is much easier to drive long distances. As can be deduced from its sleek exterior, it is decidedly not a track-focused car like the preceding One:1 or Agera RS. Rather than aggressive shifts as it accelerates like its predecessors, the Regera rockets seamlessly to ridiculous speeds. At its unveiling, it was the ultimate expression of performance and comfort, something for which it earns much praise from owners. One Regera owner we spoke to said the car is “the most beautiful car” he has ever seen and “the best sounding car” he has driven.

Chassis #7226 was delivered new to New York in January 2020, delivered through authorized dealer Koenigsegg Manhattan (Manhattan Motorcars). From 2020 to mid-2024, it resided with its first owner on Long Island. The first owner gave his Regera a name: Elegua. Elegua is a deity in a variety of Latin American religions, said to own roads and paths, a fitting name for a hypercar that, similarly, owns the roads! During the first ownership, the car had “ELEGUA” lettering on the exterior, but these letters were removed prior to its sale. In September 2024, Elegua sold to its second and current owner based near Sacramento, California, who is now selling the car through Sotheby’s Motorsport.

This Regera is painted in a custom paint shade not found on any other car. It is based on Koenigsegg’s beloved Candy Apple Red, a multi-layer, eye-catching bright red colour. On this example, the owner has gone for a one-shade-darker version of Candy Apple Red. Just as rich, but a touch less bright. The exterior also has plenty of carbon, some of which is standard for the Regera and some (pricey) options. First off, the car is optioned with the Ghost Package, a $285,000 option that adds additional aerodynamic fins and canards, giving the car a more aggressive look.

The car has a narrow clear carbon front bonnet and roof ($35,700), clear carbon ‘Speedster’ sides ($26,300), and large air intakes on each side in clear carbon ($33,500). The car is also optioned with Carbon Wing Mirrors ($7,900) and Koenigsegg’s proprietary Tresex AirCore Carbon wheels ($57,000). The wheels are ultra-lightweight but incredibly strong. The insides of the wheels are covered in gold leaf, allowing heat shielding from the large carbon-ceramic brake calipers. The car also has painted Jet Black stripes, both down the centre, around the narrow carbon on the bonnet, and down each side ($15,300).

The interior of the car was designed to match the exterior, with bespoke red leather ($15,600), slightly darker than the commonly-seen Lingonberry Leather. The red leather is paired with ‘Desiato’ (black) leather and red stitching in the Drift Pattern ($5,300). There is various embroidery too, including the Koenigsegg name and logo.

The interior has lots of added carbon, totalling $10,100, as well as a black anodized aluminium trim (instead of the standard silver aluminium), worth $14,500.

Koenigsegg Regera #7226 is offered by auction with just 1,196 miles on the odometer. It is being sold with a manufacturer’s warranty valid through April 2025, as well as comprehensive service documentation. The car comes with a Koenigsegg tool kit, a car cover, and a battery charger.

With over a million dollars in options, this is an unmatched specification and we hope it finds a fantastic new home.
